Fresh from the Depths

Team Portrait_Blurry

Greetings fellow spelunkers, bottom-dwellers, pancake-squeezers, Z-Bend-shimmiers, and all-around underground travelers. We write with a couple of announcements concerning Speleogen’s recent activities.

For the last couple of months members of Team Speleogen have been posting multimedia works inspired by our recent journeys through Petty John’s Cave on our lovely new website, which was designed by our very own Mason Brown.

We plan to publish a brand new piece every week on Thursday mornings, so please make sure to check in with us to satisfy all of your weekday cravings for subterranean art.

On the way this week is a video shot by David Matysiak depicting members of the Team working to compose a musical score that aurally represents the experiences of navigating through Petty John’s Cave.

In weeks to come we’ll be posting an article describing Devin and John Paul’s efforts to make fine art cave photos (see last week’s post for an audio preview of sorts) as well as a sound piece by Mason that remixes tracks from a novelty cave-themed vinyl LP that was pressed sometime in the 1970s.

Finally, we bid bon voyage to David who departed yesterday for Rajasthan, India where for roughly one month he’ll be making a documentary film about an incredible organization called Anchal. Anchal’s mission is an extremely worthy one. It seeks to economically empower women who have worked in the commercial sex industry by providing them alternative careers in textiles. You can peruse some of their remarkable work here. We wish David well on this venture and we invite our followers to keep track of his international escapades.

We welcome you to offer your comments about our work here on the site. And if you’re an artist interested in getting involved in the project or you’d simply like to join us for a caving excursion please write to us at

Thanks for reading, listening, and viewing.

Watch your lamps!

Team Speleogen
